LoveReading View on Spooky Poems

It’s spook o’clock alright in this excellent collection of scary poems and what a range of subject, tone and form there is to enjoy. Here are funny poems – of course - some silly ones, and some that are really quite haunting. A number are inspired by real places – Brian Moses takes us on an Edinburgh ghost walk ‘half hoping something will appear/half hoping something won’t’ and wonders how it would affect you to live in World’s End, while James Carter imagines scary things lurking in the teacher’s cupboard! They’ve obviously relished creating this collection, and their enthusiasm is catching. Illustrations by Chris Garbutt add to the fun and with Hallowe’en approaching, there are tricks and treats aplenty here. ~ Andrea Reece
