If only these super cute lemmings could read they would know to avoid cliff edges! Follow the antics of kind Capt Polar Bear and First Mate Foxy as they try to teach them to read in this hilarious pro reading fable
Utterly silly, utterly delightful, Read the Book, Lemmings is a picture book in a million. The main characters are Foxy, First Mate on the SS Cliff and three lemmings, eventually named Jumper, Me Too and Ditto. The ship’s laconic captain acts as chorus. Foxy’s book says that contrary to popular belief, lemmings don’t jump off cliffs. Unfortunately, no-one has told the lemmings who merrily and regularly hurl themselves into the sea. If only Foxy can get them to read the book, then he won’t need to keep rescuing them. The deadpan narrative and flat, stylised artwork accentuate the absurdity of the story and the lemmings are irresistible, like small, wilful but lovable toddlers. Stylish and clever this is a picture book that all readers will enjoy.
Welcome aboard the S.S. Cliff for a hilarious arctic adventure as first mate Foxy and Captain Polar Bear try to get these little guys to just READ THE BOOK!
Lemmings don't jump off cliffs. It says so right here in Foxy's book. There's just one problem: the lemmings haven't read it.
An off-the-wall lesson about the value of facts... Children will laugh, be encouraged to read and be glad to Know Better. -- Nicolette Jones Sunday Times
A new favourite in our house... full of wit and exuberance, perfect for visually sophisticated modern children. Irish Independent
OHora's scratchy, comically stiff figures and poker-faced humor beautifully embody the tale's essential absurdity. And the lemmings final victory affirms that progress is possible even for the terminally silly. Publishers Weekly, starred review
Delightfully imparts the joy and discovery of reading-and many chuckles and guffaws. Kirkus
