Hugh (11) – I was hooked on the Young Bond series after reading the first, Silverfin. The second, Blood Fever, was better and so I was eagerly awaiting the third and I haven’t been disappointed. This time James has to solve a complex seven part riddle to rescue a Master at school – but there is so much more going on and the action packed plot left me guessing as to what might happen next. Also available in Audio CD. Charlie Higson’s New Bond Series is available in order of Silverfin, Blood Fever, Double Or Die and Hurricane Gold.
Fans of Horowitz’s Alex Rider series have jumped on the Jimmy Coates band wagon and this is the third in the series. They are stand alone titles but in our opinion you’ll be missing out if you don’t read them all. It's action-packed adventure with great characters it’s guaranteed to get 12+ boys reading late into the night. To read the series in order start with Killer, then Target, then Revenge and finally the newest Sabotage.
This is young adult fiction at its challenging and thrilling best - and Melvin Burgess has yet again struck a chord with a teenager’s world. The issue of cosmetic surgery is brought sharply into focus and in such a way that the reader will feel more informed and as a result the ever present peer pressures which are a part of teenage life more keenly borne.Click here to see an interview with Melvin Burgess on www.meettheauthor.co.uk
The second in a new action series that will threaten Alex Rider’s No 1 position. Jimmy was a normal 11 year old boy but in the last month he has developed extraordinary powers that let him move with lightning speed, breathe underwater and even catch bullets! These powers are a result of extreme genetic engineering the aim of which was to create the ultimate assassin for the British secret forces. Jimmy doesn’t want to follow the path that has been set for him – so now he is a target. Guaranteed to get your 12+ boys reading late into the night. To read the series in order start with Killer, then Target, then Revenge and finally the newest Sabotage.
Winner of the Blue Peter Book Awards - Book I couldn't put down.Fans and non-fans of the grown up James Bond alike will be equally attracted to the young James Bond, now back to be the hero of a second title, Blood Fever. Still at Eton, James is drawn into the same kind of derring-do as his grown up self but here the adventure with a Latin-speaking group of Italian dissidents is good clean fun tinged with an entirely appropriate amount of menace. Brilliant plotting will make it a sure-fire winner. Also available in Audio CD. Charlie Higson’s New Bond Series is available in order of Silverfin, Blood Fever, Double Or Die and Hurricane Gold. Perfect for Reluctant Readers as well as keen readers. To view other titles we think are suitable for reluctant readers please click here.
Cherub No.4: Action and adventure for the Cherub agents coupled with humour and girls make this teenage spy series one that will run and run. These thrillers will be devoured by both sexes. It’s not essential to read these thrillers in order as they are stand alone novels in their own right, however once you’ve read one you’ll want to read them all anyway.
Reading this book will take you through every emotion you can think of, from great joy and laughter to utter sadness and loss. At its heart is a story of friendship that will live long in your mind long after and whilst reading it you will be utterly captivated. ------------------------------------------------- In addition to our Lovereading expert opinion for Kensuke's Kingdom a small number of children were lucky enough to be invited to review this title. Here's a taster....'Kensuke's Kingdom is very atmospheric and you can imagine yourself on the island along with Michael, Stella and Kensuke. I would recommend this story to all readers either to read alone or together.' Scroll down to read more reviews...

Cherub No. 2. No high-tech gadgets, just brilliant writing and a realistic plot with believable characters that the reader will find totally plausible. In Class A the police are on the tail of the biggest drug dealer in Europe but they need help from the Cherub kids to infiltrate and catch them red handed. It’s not essential to read these thrillers in order as they are stand alone novels in their own right, however once you’ve read one you’ll want to read them all anyway.
The first in the Cherub series. Terrorists, secret agents and covert missions are the theme of this highly entertaining book. James Choke is a normal 11 yr old boy with no father and a dead mother. He's taken into care while his sister Lauren goes to live with her hated father. CHERUB, a school where children learn survival skills, combat and weaponary, recruits James and he is sent on a top-secret mission. Realistic and gritty, this is pure classic teen fiction. This book manages to keep up with all the spy action whist avoiding any generic James Bond subject matter. This is the first in the Cherub series and anyone who loves spy novels will devour this breath-taking book. Joint winner of the Richard and Judy 12+ "Fluent" category.
